You will find yourself awe-struck as you witness thousands of Sky Lanterns light up the night sky of the chilly mountainous town of Pingxi. An ancient ritual which signified that the town was well and free of diseases, the Pingxi Lantern festival was opened to tourists as an annual event by Taiwan’s Tourism Bureau. Along with participating in the lantern festival, you can also enjoy Wumiao Temple’s Firecracker ceremony, which is yet another spectacle.

The Lantern festival is celebrated on the 15th day of the first lunar month and marks the end of Chinese new year. It also points to the onset of spring, making it one of the best spring festivals around the world.

La Tomatina was started when a commotion at the Giants and Big Head Figures parade caused a few angry people to start throwing tomatoes to each other. And since the year 1945, when it all began, a group of few youngsters kept the fruit fight happening every year after. La Tomatina will certainly be one of the most fun and playful festivals around the world 2019.

The celebrations start at 11 Am and last for exactly one hour during which everyone hurls crushed tomatoes at each other, in a similar fashion as Holi is played in India. At the end of the hour, Fire trucks hose down water to clean people and the streets. This fruity food fight festival promises a great time and lots of red coloured memories to take back home.

The festivities include making of a personalized alter known as “Oferendas” which is decorated with pictures of the deceased, stylized skeletons and other offerings like food, flowers and candles.
