We’ve spoken before about how much we love Thailand, and we are strong believers that you will too! There are so many reasons that it deserves a place at the very top of your travel bucket list, and here are just five!
The best food
It’s not easy to be on a diet when travelling; 60% of travellers say they gain at least two kilos on holiday and this is likely to be even more in Thailand as food is such a big part of the culture. Thai food is known for its exotic flavours and mouth watering fragrances and whether you choose to eat only in the finest of restaurants, or prefer the more rustic streetfood, you will not be disappointed. Make sure you try the spicy shrimp soup known as Tom Yum Goong, Gaeng Daeng, or red curry, and real, authentic Pad Thai — you may have tried the latter before but there is nothing like the Thai version!
There is so much rich culture in Thailand that is just crying out to be explored. Buddhism is the main religion of the area and as such, the temples (or “wats”) make for a fantastic visit. They are intricately decorated and the people inside are welcoming and willing to discuss their faith, which is fascinating regardless of your own views.
Architecture is a great part of Thailand’s culture and there are plenty of historical sites to explore, many of which can be seen as part of a tour.
Everything is affordable
One of the best things about a trip to Thailand is that you won’t be out of pocket and you will be able to experience as much as your budget lets you, without having to shell out for things like food and travel. You can get a full meal for as little as $1 USD, and even in a restaurant you are looking at around $5-10 for a meal. Hop on a bus for around $0.25 or choose the Subway or Skytrain for around $0.40-$1.40 per trip! All this money saving will leave you free to spend your budget on much more exciting things!
One way to really immerse yourself in the culture of Thailand is to wander around a street market, taking in all the sights, smells and sounds. Artists will be selling trinkets that are perfect for gifts to bring home, and the food is abundant and cheap. Make sure you indulge in a massage, too, as they are really affordable and the perfect way to unwind after a long day walking!
The beautiful island of Phuket
If there is one place you absolutely must visit in Thailand, it is Phuket! With tropical jungles, lush hills and beautiful beaches, as soon as you step off the plane in Phuket you will feel as though you are in paradise. To fly from the mainland should only cost around $30-$80 per person if you shop around and it is worth every penny.
If this list hasn’t convinced you to start planning a trip to Thailand, or at the very least to add it to your bucket list, we don’t know what will! Let us know in the comments what you love most about Thailand.
