Cherai Beach-the longest beach in Cochin district also popularly known as 'Princess of the Arabian Sea', is one of the less busier and cleaner beaches which is only 25 km from the city of Cochin. Located towards the north of the Vypeen Island, this 10 km long beach is ideal for a weekend gateway. The beach has a unique combination of sea and backwaters along a coastline of 15 km's with paddy fields and tall coconut tree's. Due to the beach being shallow, it attracts lots of tourists for swimming and sun bathing. Apart from swimming, this beach also has to offer some water sports activities like water scooter and speedboats for rent and if its your lucky day you might be able to see some dolphins in the water. The famous Azheekal Sree Varaha temple and the Cherai Gowreeshwara Temple are the two most famous temples in this place, former which is famous for its amazing chariot and later famous for its temple festival. Apart from the beach and temples, some other small attractions in Cherai are the Portuguese Fort and the Pallipuram Syro-Malabar Church which are worth visiting.
