Innsbruck is a city with a rich European cultural and deep religious history. In the warm summer months, you’ll be able to explore some of the great hiking trails as the Alps come alive with wildflowers and unmistakable green foliage –an absolute soul food.
The Old Town should be top of the list if you are visiting Innsbruck. The pastel-coloured buildings that line the cobbled streets create a peaceful atmosphere. You’ll find some of Innsbruck’s most famous sights here. Among these is the Golden Roof (Goldenes Dachl) which shines as a reminder of the Habsburg Empire. Not far from the Old Town is the iconic St. Anne’s Column (Annasäule) which stands in the backdrop of Mount Hafelekar’s white peak.
If you’re in the city, make sure to pop a visit to the Imperial Palace (Hofburg) which was the seat of the Habsburg family for nearly four and a half centuries. Just nearby you can visit the elaborate tomb of Emperor Maximilian I in the Court Church (Hofkirche). A short drive from the city will take you to Ambras Castle (Schloss Ambras). This castle does justices to the Palace and the Church in displaying the wealth of Austria’s past emperors and includes a room full of artefacts and treasures collected from around the world.
There are also plenty of runs up in the mountains and the Nordkette Cable Car is a great way to go and explore some of these mountaintops and, if you wish to, go snowboarding. The funicular will take you high above the city and open up great views over the mountains and valleys all the way to the Italian border.
Whether you want to wander cobbled alleys, hurtle down the pistes or check out the nightlife, this a city to suit all tastes. iTraveller’s Innsbruck holiday packages ensure everything that keeps you entertained, you’ll find them in plenty in this city.
